Tagline: In a broken homeland the hardest battle is rebuilding a family.
Logline: A widowed mother struggles to balance tradition and transformation as her children challenge her deeply rooted Arab values while rebuilding their lives in a war-torn country.
Synopsis:
Within the scarred walls of their war-torn country, slowly finding peace after years of conflict, Nara, a widowed mother struggles to hold her family together, relying on deeply rooted traditions. Her two children—Mariam, her intelligent and outspoken 18-year-old daughter, and Amir, her 17-year-old son—represent a new, impatient generation.
Nara faces more than just the challenge of survival: Mariam is the eldest and obedient now-adult, who must set aside any personal ambitions to help her younger brother, Amir, who tries to be the "man of the house." She is burdened by the responsibility of day-to-day survival. As tensions rise over Mariam’s obligations and Amir’s privileges, Nara is caught between honoring cultural values while facing the stress those values create as Mariam secretly plans to attend university while Amir dreams to escape abroad with the hopes of helping his family. Nara is forced to confront her own beliefs about motherhood and identity.
NARA is a portrait of a mother navigating between tradition and transformation. Rebuilding a family can be harder than rebuilding a homeland.
